Revisiting 'Seabiscuit,' Kevin Love's return, Francisco Lindor's future: Donovan Live Postgame Show

Jim Donovan and Dave "Dino" DeNatale talk a mixture of sports and movies on the Donovan Live Postgame Show

Here's one thing you should know about working with Jim Donovan: You better know your movie and television show lines. And you better be prepared should a movie topic come up out of the blue.

That's exactly what happened on Tuesday as the Donovan Live Postgame Show was preparing to launch. Jimmy was quoting lines from the movie Seabiscuit.

If you've never seen the movie, allow me to present the trailer below:

The film, starring Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, and William H. Macy, is now 15 years old, but it still resonates as a great sports movie and drama. It's based on the true story of the legendary horse and his jockey, trainer, and owner. I highly recommend seeing it for the first time, or seeing it again.

When we finished with horse movies, Jimmy and I turned our attention to some sports headlines. One of the things we discussed was the Houston Astros recent mega-contract given to MVP Jose Altuve. The shortstop signed a 5-year, $151 million dollar deal. So what will that mean when the Indians go to negotiate with their All-Star SS Francisco Lindor? Ben Axelrod wrote about this topic earlier in the day. Let's be clear: the Tribe doesn't have to do anything with Frankie, who is under team control through 2021. But you have to think there's interest in hammering out something long-term for the face and future of the franchise, right?

Jimmy and I also talked about the state of the Browns NFL Draft preparation. The more time goes by, the more it seems logical that the team has two options with their first 2 picks in the first round:

  • Take a quarterback #1 and best player available (probably a defensive player) at #4
  • Take a QB #1 and trade down from #4

I don't think the Browns are drafting Saquon Barkley at No. 4 and neither does Jimmy. You'll be interested to hear who Jimmy believes is shooting up the Browns draft board. Here's a hint: he's a Buckeye and a Northeast Ohio native.
