COLD CASE: Toledo killer captured after years on the run

U.S. Marshal Cold Case Unit solves decades old case.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott and Ohio Adult Parole Authority Regional Director Todd Ishee announced the capture of one of Ohio’s most wanted and long-sought-after escaped inmates.

Oscar Juarez, 66, also known as Eleasor Morales Moreno, who has been on the run since April 1978 was apprehended in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

On June 24, 1975, Oscar Juarez of Toledo, was sentenced to life in prison for aggravated murder, following the shooting death of a man in Toledo on May 28, 1975.

Juarez escaped from the Marion Correctional Institution in Ohio on April 2, 1978 after sawing through his prison bars and cutting through the north fence of the prison.

Prison guards found that Juarez placed a dummy in his bed and covered it with blankets in his successful escape.

Juarez went into hiding over the decades, assuming numerous fictitious identities and staying one step ahead of the law.

His luck ran out as the United States Marshals North Star Fugitive Task Force arrested him based on information provided by the Cleveland U.S. Marshals Cold Case Unit.
