AKRON, Ohio -- He was at the home of his ex-girlfriend to pick up some of his belongings.
Then he shot her. Twice.
48-year-old Kasonia Toney was waiting in a vehicle at her residence on July 8, 2017, when her ex-boyfriend opened fire, shooting her in the neck and chest.
The suspect, 58-year-old Vester Morrision will now serve 15 years behind bars for the crime. His sentence comes weeks after pleading guilty to several charges back on Dec. 6.
“Mr. Morrison has a long history of violence and will spend a significant amount of time behind bars,” Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said. “In this case, he shot Kasonia twice and left her for dead. Kasonia survived and showed a tremendous amount of strength in facing her attacker.”
