‘Enough is enough!’ Akron student’s emotional poem during national school walkout

'We gather here so that never again will a child come to school and a week later bury his best friend.'

AKRON, Ohio -- “Enough is enough!”

That was the message of students at Firestone High School in Akron as they joined in Wednesday’s national school walkout.

Many wearing orange shirts with gun targets emblazoned across their chests, a few of them spoke out in front of their classmates.

One girl offered an emotional poem addressing the gun violence.

“Someone drops a book in the hallway and you almost start to cry because it sounds a little loud and you forgot to kiss your mom goodbye," she declared near the end of her speech.

She continued...

“No child should have to live with this fear. No child should have to sacrifice his life for his peer.”

And then her final comments…

“We gather here so never again will a fire alarm be pulled and we wonder if it’s the end. We gather here so that never again will a child come to school and a week later bury his best friend. We are here because we are tough. We are here because we say enough is enough.”
