Ashtabula County's Ferrante Winery set for Ice Wine harvest on Wednesday

Bundle up and enjoy some ice wine!

The chilly temperatures moving across Northeast Ohio will make for some delicious ice wine starting on Wednesday at Ferrante Winery in Ashtabula County's Harpersfield Township.

The Ice Wine harvest will begin at 5:30 a.m.

According to the staff at Ferrante, the cold of Northeast Ohio brings out the 'sweet nectar' frozen on the Vidal Blanc vines in snow laden vineyards located approximately five miles south of Lake Erie. This creates a microclimate that allows Ohio winemakers to grow grapes and make ice wines.

Ferrante Winery is hoping to yield about 8 to 10 tons of grapes which will produce about 700 gallons of wine.

On Tuesday evening, Mary Jo Ferrante and Alyssa Sekerak from Ferrante Winery stopped by the WKYC studios and chatted with Chris Tye on Donovan Live. You can watch the interview in the player above.
