Man changes plea to guilty in shooting of 2 Willoughby Hills officers

Timmothy Schmidt has been held on $5 million bond.

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Months after pleading not guilty, the man accused of shooting two Willoughby Hills police officers has admitted his role.

31-year-old Timmothy Schmidt changed his plea to guilty during a hearing Monday morning in Lake County Common Pleas Court.

Sentencing has been scheduled to take place Thursday, April 26 at 1:15 p.m.

Prosecutors are urging the maximum punishment, which would be 45 years and six months behind bars.

The judge ran through each charge to confirm Schmidt understood what he was pleading guilty to in connection to the shooting at Classic BMW in Willoughby Hills last September.

Both officers survived.

According to reports, Schmidt was at the dealership to have his car serviced and became enraged over his bill, pulling a gun on employees.

Schmidt was also shot during the exchange of gunfire with the officers.
