Officials identify man they say fatally shot Girard police officer

Officials at the Trumbull County coroners office have identified the man who they say fatally shot a Girard police officer.

Youngstown NBC station, WFMJ, confirms that Jason Marble fired the shot that killed Officer Justin Leo, who was responding to a domestic violence call Saturday night.

The incident took place at 408 Indiana Ave in Girard.

Police say, Leo and Marble spoke briefly before shots were fired.

Marble, according to sources, made a statement that he wanted to harm others and then pulled out a gun and shot Officer Leo.

Witnesses say, the other officer on the scene immediately fired back and shot Marble, killing him inside the home.

Leo was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

A vigil was held Sunday to honor Officer Leo who had served five years on the force.

According to court records, Marble was found guilty of child endangering and criminal damaging in 2016.
