Kent State students mourn loss of senior Devin Moore

The university gospel choir will pay tribute to him with a concert Thursday night.

Kent State students are still in shock after one of their own, senior Devin Moore, died Wednesday night.

Devin was perhaps closest to his brothers at Omega Psi Phi fraternity, where he was named Man of the Year in 2017. They all used glowing words to describe their fallen friend: Innovator, Role Model, Goal-driven.

"He was a goal-getter. He was ambitious. And when he says he's gonna get something he's gonna get it," says Devin's fraternity brother Tyler Thompson.

Devin collapsed suddenly during a pick-up basketball game at the KSU rec center. Besides athsma, his friends say he had no concerning medical history.

A former basketball player at Beachwood High School, Devin majored in Broadcast Journalism at Kent State and even hosted a radio show (called "The Coacher) on the student-run Black Squirrel Radio. He was also part of a large family, and a huge fan of LeBron James, Drake, and Law & Order: SVU.

To his friends, Devin was the "GOAT."

"I know the term like goat is like the greatest of all time," says fraternity brother Paul Miller. "But...this man, he never told me no."

The university gospel choir will remember Devin at a concert Thursday night at 7:30 in Cartwright Hall.
