INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Lionel Hills is back riding his bicycle. Backward.
For years, Hills rode and juggled in the parking lot of the then-Southside Animal Hospital but after a new business moved in, he decided to go across the street.
The "Bike Guy," as he is known to some, says he doesn't ride for money but to entertain evening commuters on Indy's southeast side.
“I do it for the joy it brings to people," says Hills, who is a claims processor by day. “The smile that comes to their faces when they see me riding.”
Lionel Hills, or as he is better known as, "The bicycle guy who ride his bike backwards at the intersection of Thompson and Emerson", rides his bike entertaining the evening commuters on the southeast side of Indianapolis Friday, Dec 1, 2017.
Those smiles have been coming since 2005 when Hills purchased a bike for $19.99 from a pawn shop.
Ashlynn Brunner started a Facebook page for Hills that has more than 9,300 followers.
“When God gives us gifts and talents, he doesn’t want us to use them for ourselves. He wants us to share it with everyone” he says. “It melts my heart. It makes me feel real good inside that I am doing something that helps other people.”
