Amish man killed after lumber trailer overturns in Ashland County

The victim was 51 years old.

JACKSON TOWNSHIP — An Amish man was killed Thursday afternoon after the trailer he was using to transport lumber overturned in Ashland County, the Ashland post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.

Meno L. Yoder, 51, of Polk was driving a horse-drawn flat-bed trailer south on Ohio 89 near County Road 620. The trailer was hauling a large stack of flat lumber, the patrol reported.

The horse-drawn trailer went off the right side of the road and overturned just after 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from the patrol. The lumber dislodged from the trailer, and Yoder was ejected and suffered fatal injuries, the patrol reported.

The patrol reported the death was accidental. Yoder was not wearing a restraining device. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors in the incident.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Polk Fire & EMS assisted the patrol at the scene of the incident, which remains under investigation.
