Hours after Parris Campbell announced his decision to return to Ohio State for his senior season, the Buckeyes received some more good news when another Northeast Ohio native, Dre'Mont Jones, announced he would also be coming back to Columbus for the 2018 campaign.
A 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive tackle, Jones entered his redshirt sophomore season in 2017 as a potential first-round pick. The Cleveland St. Ignatius product, however, was short on production this past season, tallying 20 tackles, 5 of which came for a loss and one sack in 12 games.
A former 4-star prospect, Jones arrived at Ohio State in 2015 still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered playing basketball for St. Ignatius. After redshirting as a freshman, he enjoyed a breakout season in 2016, tallying 52 tackles, 4 of which came for a loss.
Jones was considered by many to be the final Buckeye to make a decision on his NFL future before the Jan. 15 deadline for underclassmen to declare. While he, Campbell and running back Mike Weber will return to school, cornerback Denzel Ward, defensive end Sam Hubbard and linebacker Jerome Baker have each opted to forego his remaining eligibility.
