LeBron James' company fires director Morgan Spurlock after sexual misconduct admission

The director admitted to several cases of sexual harassment and misconduct in a post on Twitter.
TORONTO, ON - SEPTEMBER 09: Documentary Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock attends The IMDb Studio Hosted By The Visa Infinite Lounge at The 2017 Toronto International Film Festival at Bisha Hotel & Residences on September 8, 2017 in Toronto, Canada.

After a lengthy Twitter post in which he admitted to committing acts of sexual misconduct in the workplace, director Morgan Spurlock has been fired by LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment on Thursday.

Spurlock and SpringHill were set to team up to produce a documentary series about the planned 'I Promise School,' which will provide at-risk kids with educations in STEM fields.

SpringHill sent the following statement to ESPN's Dave McMenamin:

"SpringHill Entertainment will be canceling its production agreement with Morgan Spurlock and Warrior Poets. We will continue moving forward to tell the important story of the I Promise School."

SpringHill says the series will, "will chronicle the first year trials of working within the local public school system to build a unique educational environment for children who are falling behind and fighting uphill battles every day."

In Spurlock's Twitter post, he admits to:

  • A sexual encounter in college that ended with his female partner claiming rape.
  • Calling a former female employee "hot pants" and "sex pants" in the office and paying her a settlement when she quit.
  • Having been "unfaithful to every wife and girlfriend I have ever had."
  • That he started drinking at age 13 and hasn't been sober "for more than a week in 30 years."

Spurlock, a veteran documentary filmmaker, is best known for his 2004 film Super Size Me chronicling the fast food industry.

Shooting had been set to begin soon in Akron, although it is not yet known where and when the series will air. The school itself is scheduled to open in the fall of 2018.
