For the first time in 20 years, the United States is on top of the women's Olympic hockey world, holding off four-time defending champ Canada 3-2 in a shootout to win the gold medal.

It was part of a banner day for Team USA that saw athletes win medals in multiple events, including golds in cross country and halfpipe skiing.

2:13 a.m. - USA wins gold medal in ice hockey

They've done it! For the first time since 1998, the United States women's hockey team has won the Olympic gold medal, outlasting Canada 3-2 in both the game and the shootout.

2:02 a.m. - Shootout

Overtime was not enough to decide the gold medal in women's hockey. Despite several chances for both teams, the United States and Canada are headed for a shootout.

1:38 a.m. - Shiffrin takes silver in combined

The United States' Mikaela Shiffrin has won her second medal of these Olympics, earning the silver in women's combined skiing. She finished nearly a second behind Switzerland's Michelle Gisin.

Legendary American skier Lindsey Vonn, who led after the downhill portion, missed a gate on her slalom run and was disqualified. Her Olympic career is likely over.

1:23 a.m. - Women's hockey headed to overtime

For the second straight Olympics, the United States and Canada will head to overtime tied at 2 in the women's hockey gold medal game, with Team USA looking for revenge after their heartbreaking 3-2 loss four years ago in Sochi.

1:12 a.m. - USA ties it up in third

We're all tied up in the women's hockey gold medal game, with the United States' Monique Lamoureax-Morando's goal knotting things up with Canada at 2 apiece with 6 minutes left.

12:14 a.m. - Canada takes lead

Another goal for Canada, this time from Marie-Philip Poulin. The United States now trails 2-1 with just over 13 minutes left in the second period.

12:02 a.m. - Canada ties it up

A goal by Canada's Haley Irwin has tied things up at 1 with the United States in the women's hockey gold medal game.

11:42 p.m. - USA women's hockey leads after one

The United States women's hockey team ended the first 20 minutes of the gold medal game up 1-0 on Canada, with Hilary Knight finding the net with less than 30 seconds left in the period.

10:48 p.m. - USA takes gold, silver in halfpipe

The United States fell just short of sweeping the podium, but David Wise still defended his gold medal in men's halfpipe skiing. His teammate Alex Ferreira took the silver, just eight tenths of a point back.

10:30 p.m. - Defending gold medalist takes halfpipe lead

American David Wise, who won gold four years ago in men's halfpipe skiing, struggled mightily on his first two runs before executing multiple doubles on his third. His score of 97.20 moves him past teammate Alex Ferreira for first place.

10:24 p.m. - Men's skiing halfpipe

American Alex Ferreira threw down a 96.00 on his second run to take the lead in men's freestyle skiing halfpipe. The United States has a chance to sweep the podium in this event.

9:59 p.m. - Vonn soars to lead in combined

Lindsey Vonn's downhill time of 1:39.37 has her in first place by a wide margin in the women's combined skiing event.

Her teammate Mikaela Shiffrin currently sits in sixth, nearly two seconds back. However, the slalom (Shiffrin's specialty) is up next.

9:31 p.m. - USA wins silver in women's bobsled

It's been a good day at the Olympics for the United States, and the team of Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs joined the party by earning silver in women's bobsled.

The two finished just seven hundredths of a second behind Germany's Lisa Buckwitz and Mariama Jamanka for the gold.

9:05 p.m. - USA cross country skiing history

Earlier today in the women's cross country skiing team sprint, the duo of Kikkan Randall and Jessica Diggins made history by winning the United States' first ever Olympic medal in the sport.

Oh yeah: It was the gold medal.

8:52 p.m. - Gasser takes big air gold, Anderson silver

Austria's Anna Gasser threw down a double-1080 and a score of 96.00 on her final big air run to take the event's first ever Olympic gold. American Jamie Anderson won silver, her second medal of these games.

8:33 p.m. - Women's big air

American Jamie Anderson, who won gold in women's slopestyle snowboarding, is currently in first place of the first ever Olympic big air event with one run to go.
