Summary: With the supervision of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730) performs complete histories and physicals on patients of all ages to establish and record patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings. PA's are privileged by the Board of Governors. PA's in the Hospital care role provide hospital based care to patients (more than 50% of their time) with complex, acute, and chronic health conditions. Hospital care PA's practice in a setting that requires the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to manage acute and chronic health problems. Must have the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.

Job Responsibilities:

* Conducts thorough medical histories, performs complete physical examinations (where indicated), initiates appropriate lab, radiology tests or other special tests required for evaluation of illness, and scrutinizes lab data on new and former clinic patients and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan with direct review by a physician.
* Must be able to work with autonomy within Ohio law under direction of supervising physician.
* Performs and interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board.
* Performs routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, managing simple conditions produced by infection or trauma, assisting in the management of more complex illness and injury which may include assisting surgeons in conducting operations and taking initiative in performing evaluation and therapeutic procedures in response to life-threatening situations, as privileged by CCF Credentialing Board.
* Performs specialized procedures, including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies and harvest, blood draws, designated IV starts, spinal taps, toracentesis and paracentesis as well as other specific procedures as directed by the physician, following approval by CCF Credentialing Board
* Provides information and answers routine questions of patients regarding their disease, including preventive health maintenance topics such as diet, weight, smoking and topics related to medical specialty, with basic recommendations.
* Educates patients regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects and hazards.
* Assists with record keeping, completes appropriate patient medical chart, and transcribes lab data and routine correspondence, as directed and reviewed by physician.
* Refers patients to physicians as appropriate for consultation or for specialized health resources and treatment.
* Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.
* Performs research follow-up studies as directed by the supervision of a physician. Assists in data analysis. Participates in quality monitoring thru the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care.
* Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
* May serve as clinical preceptor for PA students and other health professionals.

Job Description 

Working with a high degree of independence and under general direction, coordinate the epidemiological study of mosquito-based transmission of filariasis and malaria in human populations living in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This position will require residence in Madang, PNG with extensive travel, including extended lodging, in isolated field sites. The overall goals of the research focus on methods to achieve and monitor the interruption of transmission of human parasites by mosquito vectors endemic to PNG. Research projects supporting this position will require logistical coordination of daily activities at the PNG Institute of Medical Research (PNGIMR). A wide range of activities would support the coordination of ongoing CWRU - PNGIMR collaborations to include the following: (1) Organizing human blood and mosquito collections, and by extension storage and shipping of collected samples; (2) Liaising between CWRU scientists, PNGIMR scientists and members of the PNG National Department of Health; (3) Facilitating meetings and communications between CWRU - PNGIMR collaborators; and (4) Identifying barriers and solutions to project implementation on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.    Meet with scientific and technical staff affiliated with research projects to prioritize scheduling of sample collections and coordinate sample collections in concert with the deployment of insecticide-treated bednets and mass drug administration.

2.    Catalog blood and mosquito samples and the creation of a biological sample repository. Develop and performs new techniques with very general instructions.

3.    Participate in discussions about results with non-scientific collaborators. Involved with principal investigators and post-doctorals in performing diagnostic procedures to identify mosquitoes, and filarial and malaria parasites.

4.    Coordinate and manage all lab activities, including lab personnel schedules. Responsible for teaching and ensuring proper research techniques, SOP development/implementation, and regulatory compliance to staff. Maintain regulatory files/binders and study documentation.

6.    Train, coordinate and supervise of experiments conducted by students and newer technical staff.

The Institute for Advanced Materials (IAM) at Case Western Reserve University provides a central hub for collaborations among the university’s researchers, private industry and government partners that drive innovation of new materials from ideas to proven models to marketable technology. Focusing in the areas of advanced energy, sustainability, and materials for human health, IAM’s nearly 100 faculty leverage their expertise in specialties ranging from metals, ceramics, and alloys to polymers, composites, and biomaterials. The executive director will provide national and international leadership in the formation of strategic partnerships and alliances with industry, government, and other academic institutions as the cornerstone of the institute’s approach. The executive director will help define and implement an integrated research strategy for existing and future innovations and applications of materials research, and identify and pursue commercialization opportunities based on well-funded, cross-disciplinary, interdepartmental research projects. The executive director will also identify, target and secure significant funding opportunities from private and public sectors. Additional responsibilities include the development of a long-term strategic plan to guide the institute activities. Working under general direction, the assistant director is responsible for ensuring that all students who disclose disabilities are afforded all of the legal rights and protections as mandated in the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The assistant director will manage a case load of approximately 50 percent of students registered with the office. This case load will include all of the students using assistive technology, as well as a variety of other undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The assistant director will do intake, evaluation and determination of accommodation for students disclosing to the office. The assistant director will prepare and present campus and community programs related to disability issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Do intake with individual students. Review all documentation received from student. Performs crisis intervention and conflict resolution. Responds to unit codes as appropriate. Reviews and acts upon patient satisfaction data. Participates in best practice initiatives, offers suggestions and supports Nurse Managers and Staff in satisfaction initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Psychology, Sociology or related field. Demonstrated strong problem solving skills sufficient to evaluate and resolve complex patient problems. Excellent analytical skills with ability to gather and present complex information. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills to deal with all levels of the organization and diverse cultures. Strong computer system knowledge.

Experience: Three years related experience reflecting high level of conflict resolution in customer relations industry and/or evidence of exceptional customer service in current role for minimum one year. On Job Training: Completion of communication and computer skill training.

Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion , manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing, walking and occasional lifting of items weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

Job Responsibilities: Monitors and maintains HVAC related source and distribution equipment such as steam, chilled water, humidification and air handling. Tests and monitors emergency generator and transfer equipment including daily rounds in equipment rooms. Monitors and responds to fire protection systems. Responds to all emergency calls. Education: High Shool Diploma or GED.

Experience: Minimum three years experience in the following areas: large water distribution systems, (chilled and hot water), cooling towers, air handling systems, building automation equipment and emergency generators.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Completion of four year apprenticeship for Machinist, Electrician, HVAC Tech/Refrigeration, Stationary Engineer or Plumber/Pipe-Fitter or knowledge obtained through four years of on the job training as a mechanic.

Physical Requirements: Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders; requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools and machinery; typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or equipment weighing 25 to 100 lbs. and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 lbs. Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color-coded signage and systems.
