My name is Emily, and I'm one of the three Promotion and Marketing Interns here at Channel 3 this summer. I'm currently a student at the College of Wooster, where I'm majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. The combination of my interest in writing, marketing, and broadcast journalism made an internship at Channel 3 a perfect fit for me!

In the past two weeks, I've really gotten a taste of behind the scenes life here at the station. I have attended commercial shoots, watched a live broadcast of Good Company, listened as the announcer recorded promo scripts all the way from Denver, seen how seemingly simple film clips transform into creative commercials, and sat in on all the action in the control room during a newscast. I even helped transcribe interviews for the Lake Erie: Beyond the Surface series and, in the process, I learned more about zebra mussels and harmful algal blooms then I ever thought I would know! Plus, I've met everyone from other interns to producers to Romona Robinson and Fred Griffith, and everybody at the station has been extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful.

One of my favorite experiences in the past two weeks was going to Edgewater Park for the taping of a Coast Guard water safety video for Boating Safety Week. In the video, two members of the Coast Guard posed as swimmers that needed to be rescued, and a helicopter flew in over the lake to help them. A diver was lowered down into the lake, and then the swimmers were lifted up in a basket into the helicopter. It was pretty incredible!  You can scroll down to see some short videos of the shoot here in my blog.

It's hard to believe how fast my first two weeks have flown by, and I can't wait to see what else is in store for me this summer here at Channel 3!
