Dimora asked a federal judge to let him replace a court-appointed attorney with father-daughter attorneys William and Andrea Whitaker.
The judge said Tuesday she will take up the issue Feb. 2.
Dimora's first defense team quit over unpaid bills and a new attorney was appointed last week. Dimora has claimed he needs taxpayers to pick up the defense tab, but now says he will pay.
Dimora has pleaded not guilty.
A member of the third defense team declined comment. A message seeking comment was left for Anthony Vegh, the attorney Dimora wants to replace.
