FRIDAY, MAY 27
Seether at 9:15pm with special guest Ohio Sky at 7:30pm
The South Africa-bred, Los Angeles-based rock band hits downtown Cleveland with thunderous rhythms and catchy riffs Friday, May 27. With their new album Holding onto Strings Better Left to Fray dropping in May, Seether will dish out fan favorites as well as new tunes to the Cook Off crowd. In a career thatís spanned nearly a decade, the power trio of frontman/guitarist Shaun Morgan, bassist Dale Stewart and drummer John Humphrey have toured the globe on the strength of five Gold and Platinum-selling albums and a devoted fan base. Seether made its initial impact on U.S. eardrums with 2002ís Disclaimer. The album spawned three singles including ìFine Again,î ìDriven Underî and ìGasoline.î Seether reworked its acoustic ballad ìBrokenî to feature Evanescenceís Amy Lee on vocals. The song was a massive hit and was featured on Disclaimer II, a re-worked version of the original album that went platinum. Seetherís follow-up album Karma and Effect produced the radio favorite "Remedy" and the band scored their first number one single. Seetherís Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces showcased Morganís post-rehab attitude with singles ìFake It,î ìRise Above Thisî and ìBreakdown.î A limited number of Front-of-Stage General Admission ìBBQ Pitî tickets for Seether are $25. This price includes admission to the Rib Cook Off.
Ohio Sky will warm up the Rib Cook Off crowd at 7:30pm Friday. Ohio Sky is a Cleveland based quintet so surreal, it's unreal. Guitarist and vocalist Vinny DiFranco, lead guitarist Michael Bashur, bassist Ellsworth Turner, drummer Eric Bambic and Patrick Finegan on the keyboard are on a mission to bring passionate, driving rock back onto the local scene. They combine indie aesthetics with pounding rock rhythms and pop sensibilities to form a unique concoction as accessible as it is original. They are known for their boundless songwriting, their striking imagery, and for winning over crowds at highly energetic live performances. Their visceral, sonic vibrations range from heavy to light, and are always ethereal. Their honest experimentation with music gives their style a powerful poignancy rare to find in a band. You could say they're coming up, but you can't get higher than the Ohio Sky.
SATURDAY, MAY 28
Collective Soul at 9:15pm with special guest Red Sun Rising at 7:30pm
Original band members Ed Roland (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Dean Roland (guitar), Will Turpin (bass/percussion) and Joel Kosche (guitar) will perform a catalog of rock hits Saturday, May 28. Within months, ìShineî became a modern rock and MTV staple and Collective Soul found themselves with a platinum debut, an arena tour alongside Aerosmith and a spot on the roster for Woodstock 1994. The Top 40 hits ìDecemberî and ìWorld I Knowî followed, and ultimately defined the bandís sound of catchy melodies and guitar driven songs. 1999 brought the album Dosage, a critically-acclaimed set of songs that fans count as the bands best. After releasing a greatest hits set the band created its own label, El Music Group, and released Youth in 2004. Tweens were introduced to the quartet when ìTremble For My Belovedî landed on the soundtrack to Twilight, one of the hottest movies of 2008. A limited number of Front-of-Stage prime reserved seat tickets for Collective Soul are $30. This price includes admission to the Rib Cook Off.
Donít miss an encore performance by the winner of the Glee-inspired show choir showdown at 8:15pm Saturday. The high-energy Akron, Ohio, quartet Red Sun Rising hits the Bud Light Main Stage at 7:30pm Saturday. Subsequent hits ìMandolin Rainî and ìEvery Little Kissî established Hornsby as a popular pop act, while his high-profile work with the likes of Huey Lewis and Don Henley made him an in-demand collaborator. The prestigious list of Hornsby collaborators includes such diverse figures as Bob Dylan, Bela Fleck, Elton John, Sting and Chaka Khan. Hornsby also has a lengthy association with the Grateful Dead, with whom heís performed more than 100 concerts as guest keyboardist.
