The primary snowbelt, as usual, bore the brunt of the snow accumulation due to cooler than average temperatures in December and January.  A few other areas were on the receiving end of Lake Erie's winter wrath, including Downtown Cleveland which was buried under 10" of snow in just a few hours on December 8th.  That made for gridlock during the memorable evening commute.

Youngstown (at Youngstown-Warren Airport) reported snow on 29 of the 31 days in January and in February that location set the all-time season snowfall record at 118.7".

The season's set-up started with a strong La Nina in the eastern Pacific Ocean.  La Nina is the phenomenon of colder than normal water over vast distances of the ocean, which alters global weather patterns.

Here are the season snowfall totals from the National Weather Service.  These measurements are reported by the NWS, Volunteer Snow Observer Network, CoCoRaHS/Pennsylvania Frost, Ohio Weather Group, and NWS COOP Observers.
