PORTAGE COUNTY -- Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak tells Channel 3 News that an Aurora substitute teacher was arraigned today for felony sexual battery involving one of her students in the Aurora School district.
Doak said Mary E. Schnell, 24, of Aurora, was arrested following her indictment by the Portage County Grand Jury.
Schnell was indicted on two felony counts of sexual battery. She was charged and arraigned early Monday and is now free on $50,000 bond.
The indictment was the result of a joint investigation involving the Aurora Police Department, the Streetsboro Police Department, and the Portage County Sheriffs Detective Bureau.
During the course of the investigation, Doak said it was learned that Schnell is a substitute teacher with the Aurora School district and that the victim, a boy, 16, was one of her students.
As a result of this contact, a romantic relationship between Schnell and the victim occurred, Doak said.
It was learned that, during this relationship, sexual conduct did take place. This sexual conduct took place in Mantua Township.
