New research suggest that rinsing twice a day with Listerine is at least as good as flossing.
These studies looked at how flossing and Listerine reduced plaque and gingivitis between the teeth.
Pfizer, which happens to make Listerine, funded the study.
But the American Dental Association is embracing the results.
"The reason is because of its active ingredients, and the active ingredients in Listerine are what we call essential oils," Dr. Marie Schweinbraten, Periodontal, says.
Those oils include eucalyptol and menthol. But that does not mean you should toss the floss.
Schweinbraten (shwine-uh-brah-ton) says the best thing to do is a combination of the three: Brush, floss, and rinse with the mouthwash.
