SANDUSKY -- While two garbage collectors stood outside of their truck picking up trash, one of them was struck by an oncoming car that did not stop in time.
The accident occurred Monday evening shortly after 5:30 p.m. at West Monroe Street and Gartland Avenue.
39-year-old Christopher Thompson, of Sandusky, was standing directly behind the truck when he was hit and then pinned between the truck and car.
Thompson was pinned and had to be freed before they could take him to the University of Toledo Medical Center.
The driver of the car was taken to Firelands Emergency Room for treatment.
Units responding to the accident scene included the Sandusky Police Department, Sandusky Fire and EMS, Perkins Fire and EMS, Huron Fire and EMS, and Margaretta Fire and EMS.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor. No charges have been filed at this time.
