CLEVELAND -- If it wasn't for a hidden camera, we may have never known about the abuse Esther Piskor suffered at the hands of state tested nursing assistant Virgen Caraballo.

Today Common Pleas Court Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold sentenced Caraballo to more than 10 years in prison and fined her $1750.  "The sentenece was necessary to protect the public from future crimes and to punish the offender," Saffold said.

Caraballo pleaded guilty to seven counts of patient abuse last November, while she was employed at the Elizabeth Severance Prentiss Center at MetroHealth hospital in Cleveland.

The Investigator Tom Meyer first exposed Caraballo in a series of  exclusive reports in June.

Caraballo is seen on hidden camera tossing Piskor around like a rag doll.  Piskor, 78, suffers from Alzheimer's and has since been moved to another nursing home.

Ironically, supervisers gave Caraballo high marks in her evaluation, saying "she is very conscientious with the care she gives and that she's very attentive to the needs of residents."

Caraballo, 45,  agreed to surrender her nurses aide's license.

Channel 3 news tried to talk with Caraballo before her sentencing, but she refused comment.
