Carson, CA (Sports Network) - G.J. Kinne's touchdown run in the second quarter
proved to be the difference as National defeated American, 20-14, in the
inaugural AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Syracuse running back Antwon Bailey had a score on 12 carries with 48 yards
while Tulsa's Kinne passed for 71 yards on 6-of-9 attempts for National.
Bo Levi Mitchell of Eastern Washington and Jarrett Lee of LSU each had a
touchdown pass in the loss.
This game featured seniors as well as underclassmen.
Erik Folk had a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter for National and the
team got an eight-yard TD run from Bailey along with a 20-yard score from
Kinne in the second quarter for a 17-0 lead.
Lee threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Thomas to get American on the
board near the end of the first half.
Mitchell tossed an 11-yard score to Lavasier Tuinei in the third quarter to
make it a three-point game, but Folk hit a 45-yard field goal early in the
fourth quarter to account for the final score.
