Lake Township: Man turns himself in after hit-and-run

LAKE TOWNSHIP -- The man who police say left the scene of an accident late Saturday turned himself in Monday.

James W. Knappenberger, 19, showed up at the Lake Township Police Department with his attorney Monday evening at 6 p.m. and turned himself in in connection with an accident Saturday night.

The accident occurred around 11:35 p.m. Saturday night at Mt. Pleasant St. and Ladonna Circle.

Police say Knappenberger struck 23-year-old Cynthia Hernandez as she ran across the street and then left the scene.

Hernandez is in serious condition.

Knappenberger has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident which is a felony.  He's at the Stark County Jail.
