If you haven't purchased a Mega Millions lottery ticket yet, you have until Friday night to do so. The projected payout right now is over a half a billion dollars.
But what exactly are the odds of you winning?
Experts say ONE in 176 million
Just a few things, you have a better chance at:
Getting struck by lightning? Odds are 1 in 280,000
Getting attacked by a shark? Odds are 1 in 11.5 million
Odds of the Cleveland Browns winning the SuperBowl? Heck, that's only 150 to one
Your odds of becoming a saint? 1 in 20 million.
But still, dreamers and hopefuls are buying and praying for a miracle.
Math instructor at Case Western Reserve University Chris Butler says that, although there's no way to increase your odds of winning, you can increase your chances of getting more of a payout than another winner.
Butler suggests choosing big numbers, for instance above 31, because less people are going to choose those numbers.
Butler says this strategy gives you a better chance of not having to split the pot with somebody else down the middle.
But all in all, it's the luck of the draw.
Ohio was selling $400,000 worth of tickets an hour Thursday afternoon.
This is the biggest lottery jackpot in history. So if you want to try your luck, now is the time to do it!
You have until 10:45 Friday night to place your bets, and you can see the results live here on Channel 3 at 11 and posted on wkyc.com.
