CANTON -- An 1894 historic property built in northeast Ohio for the horses of industrialist Henry Timken Sr. is headed to the auction block.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports the Monday sale of Timken Stables in Canton is being forced by PNC Bank, which holds its mortgage. The minimum bid is $222,667.
Stark County court records show Hany Potroos owes the bank about $503,000. He had operated the Stables Restaurant and Hall of Fame Grille at the site.
The round building listed on the National Register of Historic Places failed to attract a buyer in 2009, when the minimum bid was $825,000, and last year, when the minimum was $334,000.
Potroos bought the property and business in 2001-2002 from former NFL player Chris Spielman and his late wife.
