CLEVELAND - April is national Child Abuse Awareness Month. In an effort to raise awareness the Stark County Children Services Division is hosting a "Wear Blue to Work Day."
It will happen on April 11th, 2012. Brent Hite with the Foster and Adoptive Services says the blue to work day is a statewide initiative.
"Our hope is to create a unified effort in raising awareness about child abuse. We would love to see this become a national event to teach everyone that child abuse is preventable."
According to Hite in Stark County in 2011, over 6,000 calls to the Report Line resulted in close to 3,000 reports of child abuse and or neglect.
In an average month, 500 families receive case management and supportive services through the Ongoing Family Services Unit.
If you suspect abuse you can call 1-800-233-KIDS (5437). All that is needed to make a report of abuse is reasonable suspicion. The report line is always open and a representative will be available to help you.
