CHARDON -- A procedural hearing before Geauga County Juvenile Judge Tim Grendell was held Monday for TJ Lane, 17, accused of killing three Chardon High School students and wounding three others on Feb. 27.
He is being held in a juvenile facility in Portage County.
He entered Geauga County Juvenile court looking calm. He looked straight ahead as Grendell heard remarks about two very important decisions, decisions that could determine the direction of the entire trial.
First Grendell has to decide competency -- is TJ Lane mentally fit to stand trial? Second, Grendell still must rule about whether he will be tried as an adult.
If the case is sent to adult court, TJ Lane could face life in prison.
Grendell set the competency hearing for May 2 and the hearing for whether he will be tried as an adult for May 12.
He faces three counts of aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder and one of felonious assault.
