RICHFIELD, Minn. -- As part of its plan to close 50 stores, Best Buy in Steelyard Commons will be one of the first to shut its doors.
The decision was made Saturday morning to permanently close down on May 12. All employees were notified and the store was closed for the day on April 14. The store will reopen Sunday, April 15 for regular business.
Employees at the location will be moved to other locations, if available. Employees also had the option to take severance packages if they chose not to move or don't find a new position within the company.
Best Buy said the following in a statement:
"This was not an easy decision to make. We chose this store carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business."
Best Buy also noted that they have 18 additional stores in the Greater Cleveland area.
