MENTOR -- There's been a rash of catalytic converter thefts from apartment complexes in Mentor, Streetsboro and Twinsburg.

Most recently, over the past weekend, unknown suspects cut off and stole 10 catalytic converters from vehicles in these Mentor apartment complexes -- Queensdale / Mentor Mall Village / Park House / Deepwood.

There was no specific make or model targeted and all of the thefts occured overnight. But those vehicles that sit higher from the ground, like trucks, SUVs and pickups, are more easily accessed.

With the price of precious metals skyrocketing, thieves are helping themselves to stolen catalytic converters that contain enough platinum, palladium or rhodium to make it worth the risk to cut it from the underbelly of your vehicle.

Mentor police ask that you be aware of anyone who looks like they are working underneath on their vehicle.

If you see anything suspicious, Mentor police ask that you call them at (440) 974-5760.

Between Sunday and Tuesday, Streetsboro police received five reports of catalytic converters being removed from vehicles parked at Shady Lake Apartments, Portage Pointe and Maplewood Drive overnight.

Call Streetsboro police at (330) 626-4976.

In Twinsburg, two more catalytic converters were also reported stolen to police. Officers said the thefts also occurred overnight sometime between Sunday and Monday.

Call Twinsburg police at (330) 425-1234.
