MEDINA -- Family and friends gathered Thursday for a memorial service for a mother and daughter shot to death in a restaurant during a family birthday celebration.
Loved ones came together for the service at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. A family spokeswoman said the family wished to thank the entire community for its outpouring of support.
Kate Allen and her daughter, Kerri, 10, died last week after being shot in a Cracker Barrel restaurant while celebrating Kerri's 10th birthday.
Kerri's sister, Kayla, also 10, remains in critical condition after also being shot. According to the family, Kayla is making encouraging progress in her recovery but still has a long way to go.
Police say Kevin Allen, Kate's husband and the father of the girls, shot his family after his wife told him of her plan to leave him. Police shot and killed Kevin Allen as he tried to leave the restaurant.
