CLEVELAND -- On Monday night, Cleveland City Council passed an ordinance imposing further penalties on those violating codes related to spray painting property.
Currently, anyone caught painting graffiti on property may have to pay up to a $1,000 fine and/or spend up to 6 months in jail for this 1st degree misdemeanor.
At Monday's Council meeting, an ordinance was passed that would add to initially imposed penalties.
Whoever is found in violation will be ordered to either make monetary restitution for the loss or damage incurred on the property or, at his or her own cost, remove the spray paint from the property restoring the property to its former condition.
Also, at his or her own cost, the violator will be asked to perform one hundred hours of community service removing spray paint from other public or private property.
