BROOKLYN -- No workers were hurt in an accident in an active overnight construction zone under the Tiedeman Road bridge on Interstate 480.
A vehicle, reportedly a truck, crashed where Ohio Department of Transportation crews were working on repainting underneath the Tiedeman Road bridge.
No other injuries were reported.
Traffic was down to one lane while crews cleaned up the accident. Regular work zone lane restrictions remained in effect after the accident was cleared.
The bridge painting project is part of a series of bridge painting projects scheduled throughout the summer on I-480 between W. 130th Street and Lancaster Drive.
This close call comes just a week after ODOT and Cleveland State University released a report that said work zone fatalities rose 70 percent from 2010 to 2011.
ODOT has implemented a number of measures in recent years, in an effort to make work zones safer.
