CANTON -- Police have arrested four teens in relation to a bomb threat and shooting threat made late Wednesday night involving Central Catholic High School.
The incident began just before midnight Wednesday when the Perry Township Police Department received information of a potential bomb threat and shooting at Central Catholic High School.
The threat was made via Facebook. None of the four arrested attend the school.
Police investigators met with school officials throughout the early morning hours and determined that the safest course of action was to cancel school for the day on Thursday.
In the early morning hours, police here made contact with the Canton City Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad to assist with a sweep of the school for an explosive device or devices.
Upon conducting the sweep, there were two separate K-9 indications for explosive devices in an area of interest inside Central Catholic High School.
The Summit County Bomb Squad came in with a technician and the area was cleared successfully with no explosive device being located.
At 11 a.m. Thursday, detectives went to the home of a person of interest. Three suspects in this case were located inside that home.
Detectives completed the interviews and lengthy investigation into this case. A fourth suspect that was determined to be involved in this case was later located at their own home.
Four arrests were promptly made.
Police arrested and charged a 17-year-old with breaking and entering and inducing panic, both felonies.
Police also arrested three 18-year-olds and charged them with breaking and entering and inducing panic, all felonies.
During the investigation, it was found that the four teens entered into the school and posted the message on a Facebook account that was left open by a staff member in their classroom.
The message that was posted on Facebook created quite an alarm within the community.
Police were assisted by the Canton City Police Department and K-9 Units; the Summit County Sheriff's Department and Bomb Squad; the FBI; the Perry Township Fire Department; and the Canton Central Catholic Staff and Administration.
