CLEVELAND -- The head of Ohio's largest county has invited other county leaders to a Monday meeting about studying the future of the Ohio Turnpike.

A group of consultants for the state is studying how the 241-mile toll road can be used to best benefit Ohio financially, whether that's privatizing it or maintaining public ownership. But local leaders in several northern Ohio counties have said they'll produce an alternate study.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports a letter from Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald indicates more counties have shown interest in joining that effort.

The turnpike's executive director says his agency will be a neutral resource, providing information to the state consultants and local leaders as needed to be sure the decision is made correctly.
