The fire marshal's office says the fire originated on the front porch of the home and then moved into the house via the porch roof.
Firefighters told investigators the home was fully involved upon their arrival. The home was completely destroyed. The damage estimate is $225,000, with $150,000 for the house and $75,000 for the contents.
The family is now staying with relatives.
Three people inside the home -- a father, mother and 9-year-old son -- were able to escape without injury.
Smoke alarms were present and did activate, but the family discovered the fire before the detectors alerted.
Fire investigators and police officers have additional interviews to conduct; the scene investigation has been completed.
The investigation is being conducted by the Division of State Fire Marshal and the Sheffield Lake Police Department with the assistance of the Sheffield Lake Fire Department.
