Cleveland: Officer fires on suspect, arrest follows

CLEVELAND -- Early Sunday morning, police chase a man wantign in connection with shots fired.

At 12:20 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the area of East I- 90 and St. Clair Avenue for shots fired.

When they arrived, they saw a man matching the description of the shooter walking on East 92nd Street near St. Clair Avenue.  The suspect noticed police officers and began running.

Police ordered him to stop but he ignored their commands.

The suspect kept his hand and or hands in his waistband as he ran and then turned towards officers. That's when one officer fired one shot from a shotgun, at which time the suspect fell down, although he was not shot.

Officers were then able to take the suspect into custody without further incident in a parking lot at E. 93rd Street and St. Clair Avenue.

The suspect, Darrell Britton, 47, was treated on the scene by EMS for scratches to his knees and hands.

A 9mm handgun was recovered on the scene and the suspect was found to be in possession of narcotics

He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, shooting, resisting arrest and having narcotics.
