Bath Twp: Crash kills one, sends one to hospital

BATH TOWNSHIP -- One person is dead and another was taken to the hospital following a fatal accident Monday.

Hametown Road southbound was closed at Granger Road and Rte 18 was closed westbound at Hametown late Monday afternoon.

The accident, which happened about 4:56 p.m. Monday between a truck and an SUV, is being handled by the Copley and Bath police departments and the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Per the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 37-year-old Michael Borchert of Akron was southbound on Hametown Road and failed to yield from the stop sign while turning left onto State Route 18.

53-year-old Lawrence Turner of Akron was westbound on State Route 18.  Borchert's F150 truck struck Turner's GMC Sierra causing it to overturn, according to troopers. Turner died at the scene.

The Northeastern Ohio Regional Crash Reconstruction unit was also called to the scene with OSP, Bath, and Copley Police.

The accident is under investigation.
