CLEVELAND -- One person died and a second was injured after an early morning crash in Cleveland.
At approximately 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Jones Avenue.
They found a heavily damaged Dodge Charger with two occupants and a truck hauling steel.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Dodge Charger was operating southbound on Broadway Avenue in excess of the posted speed limit.
The Charger failed to stop for the red light at Jones Avenue and struck the truck that was making a left turn onto Broadway with the green light.
Neither of the occupants of the Dodge Charger were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, police said.
Both victims were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where the driver died from his injuries and the passenger was confined for his injuries.
The truck driver, David Brown, 41, of Indiana, was not injured.
Police identified the driver of the Charger as Richard Kelley, 24, of Cleveland. The passenger, Marquis Andrews, 31, of Cleveland, remains in MetroHealth.
Broadway had to be closed for several hours.
