CHARDON --  A judge in Chardon has ruled T.J. Lane will be tried as an adult in the Chardon High School shootings.

The decision by Judge Timothy Grendell came after a hearing in juvenile court.

During the hearing, law enforcement officers recounted their experiences from February 27, the morning of the Chardon High School shootings.

Three students died in the shootings and two others were seriously injured.

On the stand, law enforcement officers detailed that when Lane was arrested he was wearing a T-shirt with the word "killer" on it. They also re-iterated that Lane confessed to the shootings, telling officers he purposely fired at his victims' heads so "they wouldn't suffer."

But the motive for the shootings remains unclear as Lane repeatedly told officers' he didn't know why he shot the students in the cafeteria that day.

Judge Grendell cleared the courtroom briefly while security camera video from the shootings was played for the court. An officer who had seen the footage described it as "horrible and gruesome."

A previous hearing already determined Lane was competent to stand trial. He faces life in prison if tried and convicted as an adult.
