CLEVELAND -- The Indians have completed a three-game sweep of their division rival, the Detroit Tigers.
The Indians edged the Tigers 2-1 in an afternoon game at Progressive Field.
Tribe pitcher Justin Masterson matched Detroit's Justin Verlander pitch for pitch and outdueled the reigning American League MVP.
Shin-Soo Choo homered off Verlander on the third pitch and the Indians picked up their eighth win in 10 games. The Tigers now trail the Indians by six games in the American League Central Division.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland was ejected from the game in the fifth inning.
Indians closer Chris Perez put the tying run on in the ninth but closed out the Tigers picking up his 16th straight save.
