BRUNSWICK -- A mourner at the site of the crash that killed 4 Brunswick teens was nearly hit by a car.
The near miss Wednesday evening prompted a warning from the Lorain County Sheriff's Department. They are asking that people refrain from stopping or gathering at the site on Boston Road during nighttime hours.
"We had someone nearly hit by a car at the site last night," said Brunswick School Superintendent Mike Mayell, between funeral services for two of the four teens who were killed Sunday. "It's dangerous at night," Mayell told WKYC, "and we're relaying the message we got from the Sheriff's Department."
The stretch of Boston Road in Columbia Township where the 4 teens were killed just after midnight Sunday is one lane in each direction, and is especiall dangerous as it is near a railroad crossing, with deep ditches on each side of the road.
A large roadside memorial has continued to grow since Sunday, and a steady stream of people have been coming to the site, night and day, since then. Wednesday's close call should serve as an important safety reminder, Mayell said.
Funeral services were being held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Thursday for Jeff Chaya and Blake Bartchak. Both are being buried at Resurrecton Cemetery in Valley City.
