NEW YORK  -- I'll Have Another will not run for the Triple Crown and will not race again.

His trainer says the colt has been retired.

Trainer Doug O'Neill, says there was swelling on the horse's left front tendon Thursday night but a special poultice was applied and the horse looked to be in good form Friday.  After an early morning gallop, O'Neill says it appeared the swelling returned and a veterinary scan was performed.  After that, the decision was made to pull the horse from the Belmont.

The swelling is the beginning of tendinitis but the horse is not lame, according to O'Neill.  The decision not to run was based on maintaining the health of the colt and the safety of the rider and other race competitors.

I'll Have Another will be returned to Hollywood Park, its home track.  No stud plans have been made.

The cold had been the heavy favorite to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Eleven horses are still set to go to the starting gate tomorrow for the mile-and-a-half race.
