SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP -- Two brothers who were hit by a car in Sheffield Township Wednesday night were released from the hospital Thursday evening.

They were hit by a car near Elyria and Clifton avenues.

The brothers, a 4-year-old and a 17-year-old, were both struck by a light colored sedan while walking north on Clifton Avenue, around 9:25 p.m.

The boys were knocked down on the edge of the road, and the car sped away, said highway patrol.

No debris from the car was found at the scene.

A passing driver stopped to help the boys, taking them home where the parents called EMS.

The brothers were taken to Lorain Mercy Hospital and then flown to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland.

One witness originally reported the boys had been shot, when she heard the crash and saw the boys on the ground. Sheriff's investigators found no evidence of a shot being fired.

The crash is still under investigation.
