MADISON TOWNSHIP -- A 77-year-old woman was found dead, hidden inside of her Madison Township home after police found it ransacked Wednesday.

Police discovered the woman's Canterbury Drive home vandalized during a welfare check shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, following a call from a person concerned for her well being.

"As she got older we all made a point of going over there, knocking on the door every so often," said neighbor Rick Miller, "asking is everything OK, anything you need? Especially the neighbors across the street."

When police first went through the home, they could not find the woman and her car was missing. Police issued a statewide missing adult alert for Eleanor Robertson though the Attorney General's Office Silver Alert system.

Later that night, Euclid police informed Madison Township police that they had a man and woman in custody from an earlier traffic stop.

Some property found in their vehicle was believed to be connected to the burglary at the Madison Township home.

After further investigation, officers found the 77-year-old Robertson's body hidden inside her home.

"We know this crime is drug related," said Madison Township Police Chief Leonard DelCalzo. "We've had a significant increase in burlgaries all related to people breaking into homes looking for gold they can quickly turn into cash."

The two from the Euclid incident were arrested by Madison Township officers and taken to the Lake County Jail. They appeared in court for arraignment Thursday morning.

They are Danna Weimer, 52, and her son, Zachary Weimer, 22. Danna lived on the same street as the elderly woman but listed her current address as Austinburg, Ohio.

Zachary Weimer lives in Geneva.

They both pleaded not guilty of first degree murder and aggravated robbery.

Both their bonds were set at $1 million in cash.

Court records show Danna Weimer has a criminal record in Lake County that includes disorderly conduct, domestic violence, and resisting arrest.

Zachary Weimer has a criminal record in Ashtabula County including drug abuse, criminal damaging, resisting arrest, and domestic violence.

WKYC saw that Danna Weimer kept turning around to her other kids in the courtroom and saying "I didn't do anything."

Robertson's car is still missing. It is a red Plymouth Voyager, license place number BV81VT.

Anyone who sees this vehicle or has any information should call Madison Township Police at (440) 428-2116.
