EASTLAKE, Ohio -- A student in northeast Ohio injured in a school shooting earlier this year that killed 3 others threw the ceremonial first pitch at a local baseball game.
The Plain Dealer reports Nick Walczak threw the first pitch at the Lake County Captains game Friday night from his wheelchair. The ball bounced once and landed in the pitcher's hand.
Walczak was one of six students shot Feb. 27 at Chardon High School, east of Cleveland. The 18-year-old was paralyzed from the mid-chest down.
The newspaper reports Walczak was presented with an $800 check to help with rehabilitation expenses.
Seventeen-year-old T.J. Lane has been indicted on charges of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault in the shooting. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for trial in August.
