CLEVELAND -- Police said there were enough fireworks stored in a resident's garage to probably blow up the entire city block.

Police got an anonymous tip of a garage packed with fireworks on West 130th Street in the First District.

Police said the fireworks were destined to be sold and fired off this Fourth of July.

The $40,000 worth of fireworks will be disposed of properly and safely by the Cleveland Division of Police Bomb Squad and the Cleveland Division of Fire.

Friday afternoon, the bomb squad disposed of about one-third of the fireworks in an open field near West 58th Street and Denison Avenue by Interstate 71.

Police remind the public that fireworks like these are illegal. Possessing, discharging, igniting or exploding fireworks can lead to arrest, court appearances and hospital visits.
