SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP -- The Highway Patrol has charged a Lorain woman with hitting two brothers, 17 and 4, with her car on June 13 and driving away.
Troopers charged Maxine L. Whitfield, 27, of Lorain, with hit-skip, vehicular assault and tampering with evidence.
The 17-year-old boy was walking northbound on the east side of Clifton Avenue with his four-year-old brother on his shoulders when they were struck by a green 1997 Toyota Camry driven by Whitfield.
A witness told troopers that the vehicle did not stop but accelerated away from the scene.
The two brothers were lying in the roadway when another driver stopped to help them. The driver took the boys home and EMS was called.
The boys were taken by EMS to Lorain Mercy Hospital, then flown via LifeFlight to Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital in Cleveland.
