RAVENNA -- A local community gathers today to honor a fallen serviceman.

LCpl Mark Allen Meduri, 24, died after an accidental firearms incident in Jacksonville, North Carolina.  Jacksonville is the home of the US Marine Corps Camp Lejeune.

Meduri joined the United States Marine Corps after attending Kent State University in January 2010.

He is a graduate of Ravenna High School.

Among the friends and family mourning Meduri, are fellow Marines.

Springfield resident Micah Bowers served with Meduri in the USMC.

"What I'll remember most about Mark is, he'd always cheer me up. I could always count on him for anything," Bowers said.

Meduri was a part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where he served for eight months.  For his service, he received multiple awards and honors.

Calling hours were 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Ravenna High School Gymnasium.

He will be laid to rest at noon on Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, with a burial following at Maple Grove Cemetery.

"He was just a steadfast Marine and just a great person. Always full of life. So happy, all the time. Loved his wife, loved all of us. It's just so sad to see him go," Bowers said.
