RAVENNA -- A former corrections officer at the Portage County Jail has been indicted by a grand jury on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, for an alleged incident with a female inmate.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office says Connie Sutton, of Akron, turned herself in to authorities where she was booked and subsequently arraigned.

The charge stems from an alleged incident at the jail between Sutton and Holly Anderson, a 23-year-old inmate from Ravenna. As a result, authorities say Anderson had to be taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released for unspecified injuries.

The date of the alleged incident was not reported.

As a result of the investigation, Sutton's employment at the Portage County Jail was terminated.

Sutton was released on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond with conditions of no contact with any inmates at the jail or other witnesses in the case.

No further court dates have been set.
